Describing a finish
A finish has two parts: how glossy it is, and how the surface feels.
We offer matt, gloss, textured and metallic finishes. For semi-gloss or satin, or any other finish, tell us what you need and we will confirm.
- Gloss
- A shiny, reflective surface.
- Semi-gloss or satin
- A soft sheen between gloss and matt.
- Matt
- A flat surface with very little shine.
- Textured
- A fine pattern or grain on the surface instead of a smooth one.
- Metallic
- Contains fine metallic particles that give the colour a sparkle.
Three ways to specify a colour
We match colour and finish to your specification, for both powder coating and wet painting.
A colour code
A reference from a colour standard, or from a powder or paint supplier range.
A physical sample
A previous part or a colour chip. Send it with your enquiry and we will discuss what is possible.
Your drawing or specification
If your drawing or specification names a colour and finish, include it with your enquiry.
How we check colour and coating
We use instruments to check colour, coating thickness and adhesion.
- BYK spectro-guide colour measuring instrument
- Color assessment cabinet
- byko-test 8500 coating thickness gauge
- Cross-cut adhesion test kit
Powder coating or wet painting?
Both can be matched to your colour and finish. Which suits your part depends on its material and use.
Before you enquire, have ready
- A colour code or a physical sample
- The finish you want: gloss, semi-gloss, matt, textured or metallic
- The material of the part
- Where the part will be used, for example indoors or outdoors
Not sure which finish?
Tell us where the part is used and the look you want, and we will advise.
